Angophora costata - Wholesale

Commonly called the 'Smooth Barked Apple' or Sydney Red Gum', Angophora costata is neither an apple or a red gum. However it is a very useful tree for parks, larger gardens and even as a street tree. Originally found in areas from the mid NSW coast through to Queensland Angophora costata is widely grown as far south as Melbourne.

With smooth attractive grey and deep red bark, graceful twisted branches and a strong trunk the new growth is red before turning to a mid green. Small white flowers in spring are attractive to insects and bees, followed by small nuts.

As it matures Angophora costata forms a wide dome shaped canopy which makes ir a useful shade tree. Young plants are susceptible to frosts and will need protection. Mature specimens are better in frost free environments.
