A wonderful small ornamental tree Elaeocarpus eumundii or 'Smooth leaved Quandong' is rainforest tree that naturally occurs from Northern NSW through to Norther Queensland. With attractive bronze to red new foliage and glossy green mature foliage it will reach around 8m when established. Growth is dense so it can make an excellent screening tree.
With a fairly upright habit and a root system that is regarded as non invasive Elaeocarpus eumundii has a lot os desirable traits. It is drought tolerant once established although may become a little stressed and drop some foliage, however they come back fairly well. Flowers are a pale cream with a nice scent, attarctive to bees and birds. Elaeocarpus eumundii grows well further south than its natural habitat but try to avoid frost prone positions.
