Chamaerops humilis -European Fan Palm

As the name indicates Chamaerops humilis or European Fan Palm palm are originally from Europe however they are a little varied in form. Some are low growing and multi trunked others are taller and single trunked. So with the European Fan Palm it is essential to establish with the wholesaler exactly the ty pe they have for sale.

The great thing about Chamaerops humilis or European Fan Palm is that it is tough and easy care. They cope well with cold conditions and will even grow in the UK. Landscapers like them for the versatility. Gardeners because they are attractive, and if they do get untidy they can be pruned right back.

They look excellent when under planted with yuccas or perhaps an ornamental grass. Look for Chamaerops humilis var cerifera which has wonderful silvery foliage. In general these palms are slow growing, will reach around 5m with a similar spread, they are drought and cold tolerant and are suitable for growing in containers.
