Butia capitata - Jelly Palm or Wine Palm - Wholesale

Butia capitata is also known as the Jelly Palm or Wine Palm and is a popular landscaping tree. Regarded as one of the toughest of all landscaping palm trees the Butia palm copes well with cold conditions as well as tropical climates.

Attractive blue green feathery foliage that arches down in a pendulous fas hion the edible yellow fruit appears in large hanging bunches and is easily harvested.

The common name 'Jelly Palm' arises from the practice of using the fruits, either fresh or in preserves. Growing from a single trunk and reasonably small to around 5m, and with edible fruit this is an excellent feature tree.

Care

A sunny position and a free draining soil are essential, regarded as drought tolerant however for good growth provide moisture and regular fertilizer. Fruit will take a few years as the Butia Palm will only fruit once mature.
