Mop Top Robinia Trees (Robina psudoacacia inermis) are a popular and hardy tree used widely in landscaping. The original 'ball on a stick' tree these plants are grafted to create the popular look with a compact dense head of foliage on a single trunk. These are an excellent tree for street plantings as they cope well with compacted soils, low water and pollution in urban areas. CareThese are a tree that maintain their 'rounded or ball on a stick' shape without constant pruning, so low maintenance is a feature. They maintain a dense head of foliage and as they are a grafted plant you will find that they do tend to look identical, excellent for formal plantings. Over time the head of the mop top will begin to get large and they can be pruned back hard in late winter to early spring to overcome this. The head will spread to around 3 -4 m depending on conditions. Often uses as street trees they can also be grown in pots or containers. Consider using a root barrier if planting near buildings, paths or infrastructure. |
