Leopard Tree or Caeasalpina ferra

Widely planted as a street tree in Brisbane the Leopard Tree is a fairly large growing tree to 20m, although sometimes taller than this . This is a deep rooted drought tolerant tree once established that forms a large canopy and provides good shade in summer. The trunk becomes a spotted brown and grey with age hence the name 'leopard tree'. As fa r as we can see these trees do not take kindly to hard pruning.

Well suited to tropical and subtropical climates grow leopard trees in a well drained soil and in a sunny position.
